Topic:
In this course, we study the media of different nations and cultures and how each influences one another. The media and forms of communication which at the beginning were highly localized, meaning people had limited source of information outside the little towns and communities in which they lived, have in modern times evolved into a globalized network of communication of information of all sorts. Currently, there are various media outlets from various nations which are constantly engaged in a two-way communication from international and interpersonal phone-calls, to exchange of international films including documentaries and blockbuster movies, or world-wide syndication of televised programs to Global News Networks.
As one of the course goals is to, “Understand the diversity of groups in a global society in relationship to communications,” our group decided that among the many topics of information that are being exchanged through the global network of communication, an examination and study on the topic of humor (a highly cultural aspect) and how it influences or contrasts with humor from other cultures would be interesting.
